"He's the Wisconsin of dick cheese" [May. 30th, 2006|09:45 am]

[mood |learning is fun!]
[music |alright... alright... alright...]

I'm so posting from class right now. Heh. I don't think I've ever posted from class. I rule. They're currently experiencing technical difficulties with a projector, so we have a minute. Ah, the delightfully insular tech world... In this room I am precisely 4 degrees removed from the real world.

Seriously, I counted.

Other people as usual have addressed it better, including my partner in crime's photo montage, ('cuz we're gonna need a montaaaage!) but Aaaron's (he gets an extra 'a' for effort) visit plus Vegas was a pretty ridiculously good time.

Sounds like they're finally giving up on the projector... Hah, never mind, it of course magically just started working on its own. Anyway, back to 'work'.

[music |Air conditioners are so industrial]

For those of you who just keep an eye out for my thrice-yearly life-update-postage, a crappy haiku:

T is doing great
I got promoted again
Kitties are precious

Most of those deserve more than those few scarce syllables, but I will expound on only the middle. (Greedy bastard that it is, even two additional syllables are not enough for it.) The reason being that T does a better job than I at keeping you apprised of her most exceptional accomplishments through her own privately owned media outlet, and that kitties are rarely as exciting to others as they are to their cohabitors. (All right, I tell a lie. But T has control of all the good pictures, and I've yet to determine the feasibility or means of transferring photographia from my phone to other, less mobile devices, so, you get nothing from me.)

But yes, promotion. I seem to be doing a good job of the whole promotion-a-year schtick, but this one is particularly exciting as I'm finally officially on the development team, a bona fide Programmer Analyst. (Technically, again, though such a title possibly counts for more at a company with a higher max headcount than 5.) One of the primary reasons this excites me is this is the position I set out to achieve when I first followed through on T's suggestion that I apply at a Hot Topic store, almost 3 years ago. I actually set myself a goal, worked at it steadily over the course of years, and have now achieved it. I've really never done anything that long-term before, and so the sense of accomplishment is pretty damn strong, I must say.

The hefty raise does help, but hey, I can't be entirely idealistic. :)

Besides that, I've had a handful of delicious, tasty adventures, most significant of which being the recent trip to SF/Oakland, to finally follow through on my long- and oft-promised visit to Kairsten there, for her birthday and before she disappears again, and check out my brother's new setup. The weekend was much too short, but what we did see was well enjoyed. Northern CA isn't all bad, it seems, cattle battle or no. :)

Mmm. Hmmm. Yes. And that is all you get for now. Wouldn't want to spoil your appetite for dinner, after all.

And now I get to hear about Lucy's naturally red hair... [Jan. 7th, 2006|09:57 am]
Y'know, I really thought I was joking when I talked about this place being unable to function without me.... Wooooo for working Saturdays!

Oh. My. God. [Oct. 10th, 2005|02:46 pm]
Um.... Yeah.

I couldn't NOT share that... I apologize if your brain melts.

I was trying to wait until I had some pictures of my new hair to share, but that needed to be out there, now. New hair is still forthcoming, I swear, but my stylist/photographer (hehe) is sick at the moment, so I'm letting her get better before I pester her.

In other news... Did I mention we got a kitten? I thought I did, but it appears I did not. Probably Tracy did, because, well, she's better than me. Well, we got a kitten, and she is, frankly, the cutest evarrrr. My legs, perhaps, are not the cutest evarrrrr, due to a multitude of feline battle scars. Heh, I remember back to the halcyon days of... uh, 4 weeks ago, when we first got her, and were wondering at the fact that she wouldn't use her claws at all, even to stop herself sliding off things. Such naivete... New kitten, hereafter referred to as "Yuri", as that is her name, also apparently has decided that new hair has been installed expressly for her entertainment. She is quite crafty in her methods of getting me to, say, lean forward far enough to bring these tasty coils within her reach.

One of these days I'm gonna leave for work and not even notice I have a furred attachment.

Mmmmyep.

Jeebus failed me [Aug. 3rd, 2005|10:30 am]
Man, I really thought I'd already posted something... And I also can't believe it's in only a week. Anyway, Tracy and I are gonna be in Cincinnati starting next Thursday, the 11th, through the 15th. Most of you already know this, due to other people being a letter better at disseminating this sort of information than me, and have already poked our schedules for stuff, like the Dock Thursday, Jacob's Friday, Angie's Saturday... Possibly other stuff, I forget.

The important thing is that we will be there, and stuff. So, yeah, me and you should hang out sometime.

Man, a week is awful close.

The devil made me do it [Jul. 8th, 2005|11:41 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

Tagged by [info]glamfiles

Name five fictional characters you'd have sex with, then tag five people who have to do it, too. Be sure to mention who tagged you when posting it, though. My list as of right now. Subject to change, of course:

1. Molly Millions (Neuromancer, duh)
2. Motoko Kusanagi (Ghost in the Shell)
3. Rei Ayanami + a few years (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
4. Death (Sandman)
5. Alice (Milla's character in Resident Evil, particularly Apocalypse)

Yeah, y'know, it probably means something that none of them are entirely human. Maybe I should do another list and reuire them to be 100% organic homo sapiens... Doesn't sound nearly as fun, though.

To accompany me in misery: [info]slightly_doomed, [info]barry, and because I also enjoy exercises in futility, [info]mannikin, [info]jaelerin, and [info]wumpvac.

Also note the new icon... My new hair, courtesy of Hair Defiant, aka Natasha. Larger pics available on ye olde journal de T, here.

It is bitchin'.

In other news, CA has yet to fall into the ocean, so that's good.

Limited time only! [Apr. 17th, 2005|03:46 pm]
Wooo for official announcements, now I can say... I got promoted! This is the promotion I've been working on/hoping for for over a month now, but there were all sorts of complications (like the guy who was the boss of my new team leaving the company) so it wasn't surprising. I'm now officially a Production Support Analyst, which basically means I'm the person between the Helpdesk/level one support, our application vendors, and the development, business analysis team. Whee!

The super exciting part is that I was expecting was about a 25% increase over my current pay rate, maybe/hopefully a little more.

What I GOT was a 50% increase.

I was shaking when I went to sit down after doing the paperwork I was so excited.

It also means normal-type hours, no more weekends, and the work is the sort of thing I was taking on myself in my spare time on the Helpdesk anyway. And I'll mostly be working with the guy I've been working with a lot anyway. So to some extent it's stuff I've already been doing, but with a bit more reward involved. :)

And, of course, no more exciting gift card calls. :)

I start next Monday... WOOOOT!

"Das ist nicht club-approved!" [Dec. 4th, 2004|03:18 am]
So, Das Bunker is a good time, I proclaim.

Babyland is perhaps the most fun one can have with pieces of trash and electronics. Not to mention a bizarre white goo cameo. And that's saying something. You really know music is industrial when someone takes a fucking power saw to a damned big metal drum.

Things that helped: they used cans of air freshener, including melon scent, in lieu of a fog machine.

Didn't help: I know for certain that the air freshener was melon scented because late in the show they handed them to the audience to keep spraying whilst they banged the shit out of some metal garbage, and some would-be David in said audience decided to fling a can at my fucking head.

At least I got to hold onto the can so the next time some sweaty, half-naked moshing BO-beacon crashed into me I could hose 'em down.

Additional potentially tragic moment of the evening: I am apparently not meant to have a firm grip on any rubber spikes if said firm grip is to be in the form of some device attaching said spikes to my footwear. Translation: fucking moshers knocked one of the rubber spikes out of my big spiky New Rocks. I didn't notice until Babyland had taken their leave, by which time it seemed 'twas long gone... 'til I tracked down the lady in charge of sweeping up the weird crap we kids like to deposit in awkward places on the floor. (Which just reminded me that some weird globule of wet also had an intersection on it's unnecessarily aerial path with my chest. I suspect it was just water, though, mostly because my shirt reeked of neither alcohol or urine.) Somehow, she actually remembered sweeping up a rubber spike, though unfortunately she'd thrown it away and couldn't recall in which can. She then, however, proceeded to join me on a flashlight-lit quest through each potential rubber-spike receptacle, and when the first couple didn't pan out, even lent me said flashlight to aid in my, remarkably enough, eventually successful rubbish investigation.

I find that pretty bitchin'. My metaphorical hat is off to you, trash diva. My footwear is in your debt.

In the meantime, no rubber-spike footwear is going to be worn anywhere where people may move in a largely vertical but just-horizontal-enough manner until I get my paws on some super-glue.

Hmm... Lemme sum up: I had a good time. Night.

Holy crap... [Dec. 1st, 2004|07:52 pm]
I have internet access again! This is amazing... Even if it took an extra 2 weeks. And, Swear is finally, actually sending me my dream boots! Also amazing!

Now, if I could just actually manage to get a new computer... Whee...

Tracy is coming to live with me in about a week. This is, in fact, even more amazing.

I've done little but work mostly lately... Excepting [info]wumpvac and [info]mssatan taking me out for T-giving, so I wasn't all alone, 'cuz they rock. And then proceeding to play World of Warcraft for 11 hours straight with them. Well, with Matt, Cindy was sleeping. In my defense, they've since gone on a 33 hour binge together, so 11 ain't so bad. Though I FIEND for it now.

I also managed to miss Skinny Puppy being here, despite their playing 3 days in a row at 3 different locations. I only found out on Friday, and worked 'til too late that night. Was off Saturday, but that night they were in Hollywood, and I discovered my car is actually overheating, not just pretending, and didn't want to drive that far. And then Sunday was nearby,in Anaheim, but I worked until right before the concert then, too. So, basically, I lost. I am, however, getting that overheating problem fixed tomorrow, so I will be seeing Babyland at Das Bunker this Friday, with En Esch (of KMFDM and SLick Idiot) DJing after. So, y'know, I'm at least doing SOMETHING. Plus, Tracy and I keep pondering the NYE VNV Nation thing... It's $45, but it's VNV, and we have to do _something_, living near LA on NYE.

Gah, I really need a table/desk and chair setup here, this typing on the floor deal is shit. Ikea, I'm lookin' at you.

Oh, and for anyone still wondering about my last post, something even more awful happened to me afterwards, and I half-passed out and banged my head on the bathroom wall before throwing up in the toilet at work. I am CLASS. It couldn't have just been alcohol at that point, as I continued to be sick for the rest of that day, and had to invest in some Tums after sleeping for pretty much 24 hours (and deliriously canceling my dentist appointment at midnight, which I somehow thought was noon) to keep any food down. In retrospect, the last food I'd had before drinking was some problematic sushi 24 hours before I drank, and I'd been a bit dehydrated to start with, and there's probably been a bit of stress on me out here.... So I've dubbed it moving-across-the-country-alone-itis. I've been fine since, though, eating and drinking water, promise.

On that HOT note, I'm off to play with this inter-web thing the kids've been talking about so much these days.

"Does anyone not like garters?" [Nov. 15th, 2004|01:44 pm]
Reminder to self: I am a FUCKING lightweight. 3 drinks = blind, stupid smashed off my ass drunk. Yeah. I vaguely remember having a good time at Chamber, though... I think. And I recall a pudding pop-esque thing being put in my hand afterwards, and it was tasty. And I can confidently say that Chronicles of Riddick is a good movie to drunkenly pass out to. There was some episode involving meat, though, that I think I wisely stayed out of, despite being called on to choose the bread.

My stomach boils with the acidic ichors of a thousand fiery liquor-demons.

Good times!

he's from some hick state! [Nov. 1st, 2004|09:58 pm]
I officially have my very own California based residence! It's exciting. I'm not actually sleeping there yet this evening, due to its lack of an officially sanctioned sleeping device, but still, it's there, and it's mine, and it has fountains and miniature bridges. Woot.

Sadly, it also does not immediately have net access, so my appearances may be limited to the work variety until that can be remedied, whose schedule I shall determine tomorrow. The remedy's schedule, not the work schedule, I know that one already. Unless, of course, one of my neighbors is a TERRORIST and has an unprotected wireless network- then I would win!

In other news, I've made a far more official debut onto the scene now, and met a disturbing number of people whose picture I've seen before. The halloween ball was actually a pretty amazingly good time, I must say, with quite the selection of fabu costumes. I now know that not only was my ill-fated voyage to Perversion sad in it's fun-to-expended-cash-due-to-violence ratio, it was sad in the fun-to-normally-required-cash ratio as well. AKA, it was dead. Who knew?

And really, when one of your superiors takes you out, gets you drunk, and grabs your ass, that's always a good thing, right?

ETA(Estimated Tracy Arrival): 37 hours and counting.

lovesick miners at night [Oct. 22nd, 2004|03:09 am]
So, I've been here what, 5 days? Decide rather late to go ahead and go out tonight, to Perversion, as I'd wanted to anyway and one of the guys from work said to go as he was. Only actually spend an hour in the club, what with it taking longer to get there and in and the club closing precisely at 2 am. Get back to my car. Window is smashed in. Guess the alarm scared 'em off after that, because they didn't take anything. But, of course, I am down a window.

5 fucking days.

Good fucking night.

Push-pull Telekinesis [Oct. 17th, 2004|04:42 pm]
I'm here, and safe. in California. Which is still weird and doesn't seem correct. I'm staying with a friend of my mother's for the moment, and keep feeling like I've just sort of stumbled into the wrong house. And that someone put palm trees outside just to play a trick on me. Which is sort of true, but I digress. But stepping outside, it smells different, and that strikes me very oddly.

And Hot Topic HQ is incredibly unassuming from the outside.

I miss everyone quite a bit already, I feel strangely displaced... I dunno. I wish that I had actually less time before I go to work, as I'm really hoping people there will be able to point me to some places I can check out, for living. I think I'll be immediately a LOT more comfortable when I have my own space... I feel like I've squeezed onto the corner of a couch that's already overfull, even though there's only two person here and I'm not really in their way.

Hmmmm... I think I should feel more accomplished. I made it to CA! Whee!

Eh... We'll see.

The book of going forth [Oct. 14th, 2004|05:19 pm]
Alright, cats... I'm officially heading out. I'll have my cell on me and should be covered most of the way, but I likely won't have Internet access 'til at least Sunday, and only borrowed then from the awesome people who are putting me up.

Thanks again to everyone who's helped me out, or helped me not go insane these last couple weeks but diverting me, or who's just been my friend for a stupid long time... You'll all be greatly missed.

Until I come back to visit... Or you come visit me. :)

Wish me luck... O 32 hour drive.

You know, you know, no, you don't, you don't... [Sep. 14th, 2004|01:44 am]
So, I now have a job in California.

Phase 2: Live in the same state as my job. Note that this actually hasn't been true for over a year now, but is suddenly more urgent.

It's all a bit surreal.

"she think we buddies, but I just usin' her for my own personal satisfaction" [Aug. 22nd, 2004|03:49 am]
I just had to take a cab home, because machinery that is not german is useless. not that my car was running well and i should be surprised. but still. no fun. actually, the cab ride was fairly entertaining, and the seats were _really_ comfortable. waiting 45 minutes sucked though.

you know what cures all ills? yar, i know ye do!

also, shopping has been known to cure whiplash. fortunately i don't have that, because frankly, i need to save for LA.

take me to your governator!
